Which tablet PC to buy- Apple iPad 2 or Amazon Kindle fire?

The recent tablet PC revolution has changed the way we perceive and use the personal computer. The personal computer is now more personal and can be with us anywhere we go! Did I exaggerate on the word ‘anywhere’? Of course not!

With smaller and lighter tablets coming up in the market (also the medical ones if that concerns you) the common gadget lover has nothing else to ask from God and everything now depends on his (or his parent’s) pockets. The tablets are becoming faster, come with better specifications on every drop of eyelid, are becoming sleeker and allow you to perform various tasks right from watching YouTube videos, creating and editing office documents to playing ping pong. (Both on the tablet and with the tablet! Use a good tablet cover for that top spin!)

Comparison between Apple iPad 2 and Amazon kindle fire
Apple with its iPad range is a cult among tablet PCs and is regarded as the best tablet your money can buy or you can steal (if that’s your style) and is something which every tablet PC manufacturer is trying to emulate. However these rival companies are no fools themselves and are trying to capitalize on the various loopholes this gadget has. If you think that iPad doesn’t have any loopholes, think again! Is the iPad available for FREE? No? That is one loophole!

Amazon, one of the biggest online e-book library and shopping sites in the internet has finally tried its hand in the tablet market. Gradually progressing from a mere e-book reader, it has finally come up with a full-fledged tablet with the Amazon kindle fire. Let us know in detail about these two must have gadgets.

Price:
While the iPad costs $499 for the base model, Kindle fire at $199 costs $300 less than the iPad 2. According to many this is the end of the comparison. But if price does not matter, read on rich boy!

Screen size and weight:
The Kindle fire has a mere 7” screen which may or may not be enough for the average user. However it will suit those who like portability and would like to carry fire in their blazer pockets. Also a mere weight of 14.6 oz won’t feel anything. The iPad on the other hand has a 9.7” screen and weighs 21.28oz.

Screen resolution:
The iPad has a screen resolution of 132 ppi with 16 million colors (Same as a regular laptop). The Kindle fire surprisingly has a higher resolution of 169ppi and the same old 16 million colors. (Can’t someone add one or two more colors?)

Battery life:
A tablet is truly portable only if it has a good battery standby backup. The Kindle although has the smaller screen, lower graphics, lesser number of applications, still it is the one having the lower battery life! With only 7.5 hours of playback time. The iPad on the other hand has a battery life of 10 hours.

Internet browsing:
Amazon Kindle fire uses the silk web browser which is claimed to be faster than other tablet web browsers. However the same is under scrutiny by various tech writers and the results is not as stated. The Safari web browser used by the iPad on the other hand is at par with the Silk as of now.

Additional features:
Both the Amazon Kindle fire as well as the Apple iPad 2 have some features common like- 1 Ghz processors, email, Multitasking, Wi-fi, multi touch etc. However the Apple iPad has mono speakers whereas the Amazon Kindle Fire on the other hand has stereo speakers. Also unlike the iPad 2, the Kindle fires supports flash! Now what did I say about searching loopholes and capitalizing on them? The Kindle fire however doesn’t have any microphone. So- No Skype or other VoIP services for Kindle users. The reason is however understood- Maintain silence while you are reading!

Also the Kindle fire lacks Bluetooth, 3 axis gyroscope, camera and the half eaten apple logo. It however has a feature which will sound cool to the book buffs- ‘Kindle Owners’ Lending Library’ where you can borrow from a number of popular books available at no extra cost!

Conclusion:
There were a lot many features common and different between the two tablets. The one which you must buy will depend on your preference, budget and brand choice. Other than that both are good gadgets worth introducing to your gadget family.
